Romania

Taking you right into the heart of Romania this trip is all hotels and includes some pretty special links to get you south including an overnight motorail and overnight ferries. The route is not what you’d expect and will have you swimming in the Ionian sea one minute and dining in a Venetian palace the next minute. The highlight of the trip being the exclusive private dinner in Bran Castle, but watch out as Dracula lurks in the castle as we are eating. To top it all off you’ll drive the spectacular Transfagarasan pass… this trip is the stuff dreams are made of.

What Car Can I Take?

You have two choices here, budget or classic.

You can take a car that costs no more than £1000 or a car of any value that is 20 year or older. If you go for the £1000 car the budget does not include tax, mot, or any safety related repairs required on your car.

What is the route?

The Rust 2 Romania route is very special indeed. It is divulged on a daily basis via the morning brief and checkpoint guide.

What we can say though, is that the Rust 2 Romania route is not obvious and involves less driving than you think. We use a variety of boats and overnight motorail to quickly advance our trip across Europe which means less time driving and more time with the warm wind in your hair on the deck of a giant cruise ship! That's right a train. You'll spend the afternoon chilling out somewhere awesome then literally drive through the platform and onto a train. You'll also get a cabin just for you and your teammates so you can comfortably sleep as the train takes you across the border and wipes out several hundred miles of driving. Thanks to all these complicated train and boat bookings, Rust 2 Romania takes you further afield than possible on any normal road trip!

Where do we stay?

By the time you reach this hotel you'll already have visited seven different countries and that's only on day five.

You'll have crossed mountains and watched the sunset on the horizon as you disembark one boat and board another. It's all worth it though when you arrive at your villa with it's own private swimming pool. Of the fourteen nights you'll be away, one of them will be in a rickety chalet and the rest is split up between boats, trains and some amazing hotels ranging from three stars to five stars. It's not five star luxury every night, it's a blend of carefully selected accommodation which is fit for each day of the trip. We don't just stay where there are luxurious hotels, we also stay where the hosts are welcoming, bring us beer and dance with us after some excellent home made cooking.

Fuel
£950 - £1450

Road Tolls
£65

Garmin with European Maps
£30 - £150
You'll need a Garmin with the trip planner feature which most of them seem to have as standard. You can find cheap second hand models on eBay or refurbished units online. It's essential to follow the Rust 2 Rome route and it's what really makes the route a pleasure to follow, not to mention keeps you on the same roads as all your fellow teammates so they will find you if you breakdown. The Garmin is also extremely stable when dealing with the intense heat on Rust 2 Rome trips, unlike most modern smart phones which tend to shut down due to overheating.
Return Ferry from France
£90
If booked in advance you can get a return ferry from Calais to Dover for as little as £90. Arrive on the day and you'll pay £150. There are also overnight ferries to Hull, Harwich and Newcastle which save a lot of fuel and drive time though are more expensive.

Not included

This is a road trip thats fuelled by adventure, where we’ll guide you across numerous countries and navigate our way across challenging roads.
